Every element of Cubetastic, with pictures from the game. 12 stages, 135+ levels, three cube sizes – and no hints in the game. So here are the rules.

The basics

What a level is made of.

Level in Cubetastic (Gameplay)
Gameplay
Level
One puzzle: a cube of 3×3×3, 4×4×4 or 5×5×5 blocks. You always stay on the top layer of the cube.
Block and face in Cubetastic
Block and face
The cube is built from blocks. Each block has six faces, and each face has a color or no color. Only the faces on top matter for walking.
Player in Cubetastic
Player
You: a small glowing ball of light on top of the cube. Bring it to the goal.
Start position in Cubetastic
Start position
The cell where the player flies in at the start of the level.

Moving and turning

The two things you do in every level.

Walk in Cubetastic (Tutorial)
Tutorial
Walk
Press on the player and hold: the cells you can reach light up. Drag over them to plan a path and release. If you skip cells, the game finds the path for you.Tip: A goal or a color changer always ends a path.
Player color in Cubetastic
Player color
You always have the color of the cell below you, shown in the core of the player. You can walk only on cells of your own color, onto a color changer, or onto an open goal.Tip: Your color is the floor: check the cell below you first.
Plane rotation in Cubetastic (Tutorial)
Tutorial
Plane rotation
Turn a whole row or column of the cube in 90° steps to build a new path. Press a side face and drag up or down, or press a top face and pick an arrow. You can not turn the row and the column you stand on, or a row or column with a lock.Tip: Often it is faster to turn the cube than to walk around it.
Hover mode in Cubetastic
Hover mode
In hover levels the player floats. Then you can turn your own row and column: the player lifts up while the plane turns and lands on the new face.Tip: Ride a plane to reach another face.

Goals and special cells

The items that make each level a new puzzle.

Goal in Cubetastic
Goal
Stand on an open goal to finish the level. An open goal glows; a closed goal has no glow.
Colored goal in Cubetastic
Colored goal
A goal that opens only for a player of its color.Tip: Change your color first.
Goal switch in Cubetastic
Goal switch
The goals open only when you used every switch of the level. The HUD shows how many switches you used.Tip: Switches first, then the goal.
Color changer in Cubetastic
Color changer
Step on it and you take its color at once. After a color changer you plan your path again with the new color.
Lock in Cubetastic
Lock
A locked cell has four yellow corners. Its row and column can not turn. A lock does not stop you from walking over it.
Unlock cell in Cubetastic
Unlock cell
Some locks carry an unlock item. Stand on it to open the lock of that row and column. Locks without an unlock item stay closed for the whole level.
Hover item in Cubetastic
Hover item
An item that belongs to a top cell, not to a face. It lifts up while its row or column turns and comes back down on the cell. While it is lifted, a dim outline stays on its cell, so you see where it belongs. Goals, switches, color changers and colored goals can all hover.

Score and stars

How a solution is measured.

Moves in Cubetastic (HUD)
HUD
Moves
One move is one press on the player that sends it somewhere. The length of the path does not matter.
Turns in Cubetastic (HUD)
HUD

Time in Cubetastic (HUD)
HUD
Time
Seconds from the start of the level to the goal. The pause does not count. Time is shown, but it does not give or cost stars.
Stars in Cubetastic (Level complete)
Level complete

★ you solved the level. ★★ your moves and turns are not more than the average of all players. ★★★ your moves and turns are not more than the best known result.
